the launch of ABC

Explanation:
I would feel more confident of this answer if I knew that "ABC" stood for a company.

Asker: I don't know if it is the company or the mine. I think it's the mine -- is "operation start up" too literal?? Thank you!!

Asker: Thank you very much Robert! ;o)

implementation

Explanation:
It depends on context. If what they are putting into operation is a new system, or a strategy, then "implementation" is your term.

COMMISSIONING if it is a new plant or a huge, company-wide system.

entry into service / operation / production

Explanation:
I don't see anything wrong with translating it literally. I come across mines and industrial plants "going into operation" and "going out of service" fairly often. I also see "service life" of plants and mines all the time.

I don't think that "startup" is the right term here either, since the mine will be started up and running for weeks or months before it actually goes into service. Thre are many, many processes that have to be completed before the mine can actually start producing anything. To start with, you have to dig out all of the overlay before you even get to the ore itself: so when the mine is started up, all that it will "produce" for a long time is rocks and dirt, until it eventually goes into full operation once they reach the actual ore and commence processing.
