that is the simplest and most logical way of translating it in my view. a postgrad diploma is normally a 9-12 month vocational course taken on completion of a 3-4 year first degree. It has less academic standing than a master's degree, but normally more vocational focus.

What made you think so? The original training may be perfect, but no longer in demand in today's labor market, or you may just want to try your hand in some new field. That's where retraining comes which means training in new skills.

На мой взгляд, профессиональная переквалификация - это далеко не то же самое, что postgraduate studies - основная разница в том, что это именно ПЕРЕквалификация, то есть человек получает НОВУЮ квалификацию на основе полученного образования (но не всегда в полном соответствии с этим образованием) - т.е., к примеру, переучивается на новую, более востребованную на рынке труда специальность. Таким образом, переквалификация подразумевает не столько получение (новой) ученой степени, сколько обретение новой специальности.
