Can anyone suggest a suitable translation for the phrase above (a literal translation isn't going to work) - an integrative approach, perhaps? Thanks.
Context: description of an artist's work which compares his style to the 'vedute' paintings of the 18th century and most particularly the 'capricci' of the Nordic artists who sought to represent both real and imagined scenarios in a single painting, as a means of expressing the visual and emotional experience of the Grand Tour.
