Le quartier s’est embrasé et les autorités ont déployés un arsenal impressionnant, ******camions grille******, lances à eau et CRS équipés comme des Ninjas.

_______________

In a guide to Paris, this extract briefly refers to recent (3 years ago) unrest in the 5th arrondissement...

Despite all my efforts, I've been unable to discover what camions grille are. It seems the authorities pulled out all the stops - perhaps literally!

Any help would be much appreciated - many thanks!

or just protected by a grill in front...anti-riot would be my first choice as not necessarily they're armoured like the ones in USA..

yes, like in the second pic I posted...:) thanks/merci
agree chris collister : A grilled truck is a nice idea, but generally only after they have been caught napping... "Shielded truck/van" might work.

I'd go for anti-riot...:-) thanks Chris

Thanks
agree David Goward : Another vote for "anti-riot". When I first saw the query in the list, before reading the context, I thought of the rotisserie trucks you often see on markets in France!//Except their purpose is to stop the "poulets" from being "roasted"! ;-)

well, they could be used for the same purpose if you install grilled windows on them (plus I'm sure the "flics" would be happy to have some food aboard while breaking their way through 'manifs':))
Something went wrong...
4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "thanks so much for the help Fabrizzio! Anti-riot it is, but I'll leave the armoured cars for US usage perhaps"
