French term

support

French to English Marketing Advertising / Public Relations questionnaire about promotional materials seen in airports

This is aimed at the general public. From my list of possibilities I am thinking of going for 'types of displays' vs. anything like more technical.

Discussion

Dieezah May 18, 2011:
@ Asker I saw that post, it's not at all the same... format here is more about the shape of the advertising message when in your case, "support" is the "thing" through which your message is going to be displayed... (by the way, display and media are not the same thing here)
ormiston (asker) May 18, 2011:
just wondering...what do you think? a posting today offers 'format' in a very similar context -
"Amaze your customers with unique and innovative ads.
Admagic offers exclusive audio, video, interaction and
expansion formats to make each piece a creative expression.
Skins & wallpapers; expandables; interstitials; layers; pre
roll, middle roll, post roll overlays; banners with audio &
video; mobile advertising.
ormiston (asker) May 17, 2011:
equated here with 'dispositif' • Est-ce que la marque va faire passer le même message en fonction des différents supports ou dispositifs que je viens de vous montrer ?
Does this narrow it down a bit?
ormiston (asker) May 17, 2011:
I know, Tony, have ploughed through the list but for example I'm not sure 'medium' would work here - posters etc. are all the same sort of media /vector.
Tony M May 17, 2011:
Glossary If you haven't already, I'd suggest a term search, as this has come up several times before, and you may find the earlier suggestions helpful.

various media and formats

Just as Richard says, of course!

But as you point out that the list includes a sub-set within at least one of those media, perhaps this might be the solution you need?

I feel adding the 'various' is probably necessary here to make it clear that this is media in the broadest sense, perhaps less usual in EN.
Peer comment(s):

agree Philippa Smith : or maybe just "formats" on its own?

Thanks, Philippa! Yes, possibly, though I'm not too sure how well that sits with posters + video... ??

Merci, Silvester !
neutral philgoddard : I don't see how this improves on Richard's answer - all the items in the list of examples are media, and the French doesn't say "formats".
10 hrs
No, but FR uses 'support' more flexibly than is usual in EN, and since the posters etc. come in different formats, I felt it was important to address that difference, as Asker had queried.
neutral Dieezah : I agree with Phil

neutral Tony M : but surely here we're not talkiing about the platform, so much as the actual media themselves?
