Richard Hill May 28, 2011:
I'm sure Hi Claudia. I'm positive you're not making it up. My response was to the comment that "loss of duties is a contradiction". And like you say, might depend on the country. According to Christines references, sounds like Peru differs from Mexico; it could also depend on the case, for example, in the case of an adoption, I imagine that the adopter would loose both rights as well as duties/obligations. Saludos.
Claudia Reynaud May 28, 2011:
Not in Mexico... In Mexico, you lose all rights, but not the obligation to pay child support. Not only that, but if the parent that loses the patria potestad hasn't been paying child support for, say, 5 years, then he is obligated not only to start paying child support and continue to pay child support until the children turn 18, but also to pay the 5 years of child support he/she owes. Really, I'm not making this up. I speak from personal experience. I guess (as is usually the case with legal documents) the best answer would depend on the country of origin of the document.
Richard Hill May 28, 2011:
rights and duties I does actually make sense that if you loose your parental rights or if they are terminated by the court, you would also loose your duties or obligations, such as having to pay child support
Christine Walsh May 28, 2011:
Mine's not the best answer, however:

Loss of custody

or perhaps loss of right to custody. That's assuming that we are talking of child custody...

neutral Sandro Tomasi : Wouldn't you say that it is specifically "legal custody"?

I see what you mean; I think 'termination' is better. However, the term does exist - perhaps these people use the same dictionary ;) Will post below

Loss of full legal custody rights
