English Social Sciences Social Science, Sociology, Ethics, etc.
What does the word “observed” mean in a very long list of holydays, e.g.:

Anniversary of the May Revolution (bridge)
New Year's Day (Observed)
Australia Day (Observed)
Easter Day
Anzac Day (Observed)
Christmas Bank Holiday
Boxing Day Bank Holiday
New Year's Eve
Ascension
