slotted holes or slots

In Italian, they may be simply called "asole". In English, they may be simply called "slots".

Marolli's Tech Dict'y: asola = slotted hole

PS The term "loopholes" / "loop-holes" / "loopholes" seems to convey the idea that the hole is small and more commonly rectangular, such as the slit where you insert a coin in an automatic dispenser. It correspond to the Italian "feritoia".

Loophole, American Heritage:
A small hole or slit in a wall, especially one through which small arms may be fired.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "I agree, I think for describing smaller holes, I could use the term eyelet. Slots seems more in keeping with the dimensions of the machine they're decsribing. Many thanks."
