In your case, "Under the Weather" could mean that because of the often sickly wife it is "slow creeping", unfolding in layers, with many swings of the pendulum. [My comment: however, in reading the reviews, the novel is predictable in its outcome].

I dunno, I found it clichéd as well as predictable. [I have seen TV shows etc before where someone has been so grieved by the death of a loved one that they have kept the corpse and not come to terms with the fact that they were actually dead.

As far as the writing goes, King hasn't lost a step. The prose itself is smooth as silk and it was a rather easy read. The story itself, however has some faults that bring (sic) it down.

I'm not averse to first person writing, but I find that it's tricky to reveal your narrator's name. You can reveal all sorts of other facts, but I find it difficult to connect to someone who I literally can't identify. We learn his name eventually, but that's at like the 60% mark.

A large portion of the story centers on two characters discussing potential marketing slogans for a Viagra-like pill. With longer forms like novellas and books, showing scenes of the main character's work a day life is understandable. In a short story, however, I feel like it ate up a lot of space that could've been used on other things.

Really though, the story hinges on the Shyamalan style "tweest!" ending. So, the question becomes, does the twist work? Well, not really. It's squicky enough, and certainly has the potential to be shocking, but King tips his hand a bit too early. There's a flashback in the latter portion of the story that reveals quite a bit about the main character, as well as his wife. It's great for giving the character a bit more depth, but by the time the story returns to the present, your brain will pretty much be able to figure out what's going on and it will make the final reveal that much less dramatic.

In short, "Under the Weather" (which I have not read) (only 16 pages), is apparently "creepy", and rather predictable as one can figure out the outcome.

The bonus story, 'Under the Weather' was my least favorite. There was something about it, and I can't quite put my thumb on it. Maybe it fell flat to me, in which you might say, "Then why did you give the book 5 stars?" Well, its a bonus story, and not every version of FD, NS has it.

La expresión Under The Weather (del inglés) se usa cuando una persona quiere expresar que se encuentra un poco enferma, incapaz de hacer algunas cosas rutinarias (como ir al trabajo, o practicar algún deporte).

Este cuento es sumamente corto (una 11 páginas en formato .pdf) y relata un poco la vida de Bradley, su esposa Ellen y su perra Lady. Ellen está postrada en cama, muy enferma (under the weather) y Brad -quien está teniendo horribles pesadillas últimamente- debe lidiar con la enfermedad de su esposa y su vida normal (cosas como el aseo, sacar al perro, trabajar, socializar). Brad trabaja en una empresa publicitaria y se nos muestra un poco de ese mundo de una manera muy divertida e interesante. Si les contara más de la trama podría estropearles todo el relato. Solo puedo decir que Stephen King vuelve a sacar partido a las extrañas situaciones creando una historia plausible con personajes muy bien delineados.

Como dije anteriormente, la historia es muy corta y no toma más que unos minutos terminarla. Como punto negativo podría decir que -al menos para mi- el cuento resultó ser bastante predecible, pero aún así no perdió el encanto en la recta final.

Stephen King tiene cientos de relatos y, definitivamente, éste no está entre los mejores; a pesar de ello, es una muy buena adición a la gran colección de cuentos del rey que, como él bien describe en las páginas iniciales de la colección “Todo Es Eventual”, es un arte casi perdido…
