English term

generic formulary drug

Non-PRO English to Spanish Medical
I don't have a medical resource so I don't know what "formulary" means in Spanish. Also, how do you find resources on the Web such as a medical glossary?
Thanks for any help!

formulary

In the Unites States the word formulary
used in the medical context implies
the list of medications approved and paid by your medical insurance. They can be either generic or brand. Thus
my suggested translation would be:
"Droga generica aprobada por el seguro...". Generica has a stress mark
in the second "e". Sorry, I am new on this and do not know how to type stress
marks, yet... do you have any suggestions? [email protected]
P.S. I checked with my wife who is a
Medical Doctor (Internal Medicine) with
degrees in Colombia S.America. and North
Caroline USA., before I sent you this response.

Comment: "Thanks for checking with your wife.... in this case it would be "medicamento genérico aprobado por el seguro" As far as being able to get the accent marks on your Spanish words, Microsoft has a software called "Microsoft Office Proofing Tools for Spanish" visit http://proofing.com/support or call 206-286-2780..thanks!"

I guess the most appropriate translation for "formulary" is "formula", which is a term widely used in pharmacy, but these kind of drugs are just known as "medicamentos genéricos", at least in Spain. Maybe other coleagues from Southamerica may have different terms.

As for the glossaries, medicine is not my main field of experitise, but I don't know any good on-line bilingual resource. The good thing with medicine is that most of terms are very similar in English and Spanish, so a good advice a teacher at uni gave me was asking my doctor to give me one of his old guidebooks, what we cal in Spanish, "vademecum". It is very useful.

my english medical dictionary has for formulary: "a book containing a list of medicinal substances and formulas."

i'm not sure if formulario works, but that's an option. either that or libro or listado, or something else along those lines.

here's few medical and chem sites i've found helpful:

I don\'t know how complete it is, but it\'s probably worth a look.

Good luck

generic formulary drug list?

Pamela
