If you just want to have fun in class, then...
The comments by Indiana and Henry are 100% true and correct. However, if everyone in your Spanish class wants to try out a "Spanish" name/alterego for your class, then I suggest the following. Also, when I have travelled in foreign countries, I have seen that if you use a name for yourself that the people of the country are familiar with, they are more likely to remember it.
marisa = very close to Maritza
Katelyn = Catalina or Kati
Megan = sounds kinda like Magdalena
Megan = also the nickname for Magdalena is "Magda"
Gary = Gerardo
Shane... there is no "sh" in spanish, only "ch." Some 'nicknames' with "ch" are Chuy (jesus) Chava (salvador) and Chon (encarnacion)
