English term or phrase: in a very directed form

As I will explain more fully in a later chapter, even exposure times as short as 1/1000th of a second are too long to capture Spirit emanations when they move about as they would normally do. In order to be photographed, they actually have to be still intentionally, at least for the short duration of the photographic exposure. Later I will demonstrate that it is possible to request these Spirits to hold still during
the duration of the image exposure and that such requests can find a positive response. Not only would they hold still for me upon request, they would also beam their light in a very directed form into
the camera

Explanation:

Explanation:

"beam their light in a very directed form into the camera"
