English term

HB

English Marketing Other Sales
I've search Google and scoured Acronym Finder and I can't find the two words that would fit this acronym. It appears in the following line:

"All of our sales staff have a certain HB, which they manage themselves and can be used to cover expenses related to developing new clients."

I don't know what the sales staff are selling as this line is part of a short test passage for students and is followed by a multiple choice question, which is not about the HB.

Thanks,
Mark

The original text is in English. I've mailed the client but it'll be a while before they come back to me.

I'm not sure I understood correctly - what language of the original text?
David Moore (X) Mar 20, 2007:
ch could fit this context.

This has been through quite a few hands, and I just wonder: could it be a typo or an OCR error, where the "H" should be an "M"? I've just finished a scanned doc. where this happened several times. If that were the case, it could be "marketing budget", whi
Fan Gao (asker) Mar 20, 2007:
Thanks. I've found "holding budget", but I've never heard of that in this context and all the links appear to be about the economy and nothing to do with sales.
BrigitteHilgner Mar 20, 2007:
Given the context, I assume that "B" stands for budget. Sorry, no idea what "H" might stand for.
Fan Gao (asker) Mar 20, 2007:
Yes, it's a back-translation from Chinese but the original translator left HB as it was and didn't translate it into Chinese so it doesn't really help. It has to be some kind of expense account, but I just can't think what the initials could refer to.
Ioanna Karamanou Mar 20, 2007:
It sounds like it is referring to some sort of expense account or petty cash fund, but I have no idea why it is referred to as HB. Is this a backtranslation and, if so, from what language? Maybe that could shed some light on the mysterious acronym.

Typo for MB

Having surfed a bit, I'm surposed how many times the expressions "sales staff" and marketing budget" occur cheek by jowl, and I think it is a distinct possibility - even though it's little more than a guess...
