Hi experts, Some of the times, I get badly formatted sdl xliff files and when translating them with Trados Studio, I find that one sentence has unnecessarily been broken into two or three and sometimes four segments. English follows Subject --->Verb----->Object whereas Hindi has a system of Subject---->Object------->Verb. So, each and every thing gets messed up. Choose the segments you want to join (Ctrl+Left-click on their number column- the most left column). Then, right-click and choose "Merge segments". It works only, if the segments belong to one paragraph. If they belong not, then no go. | | | A workaround you may be able to use | Jan 16, 2016 |
There is a workaround described here: http://signsandsymptomsoftranslation.com/2012/07/18/sp2/ Although it is described for Studio 2011, it works, of course, in later versions. Correct the source formatting | Jan 16, 2016 |
Chopra Studio does not allow you to merge segments if they are separated by a paragraph mark (aka “hard return”). This is by design. If you need to do this, it means that the source text is badly formatted, as you correctly pointed out. The proper way to handle this is to open the source document and correct the bad formatting, e.g. by replacing the hard returns (paragraph marks) by soft returns (line feeds). If you don’t have the source but only the SDLXLIFF, you can use the Studio function “File – Advanced Save – Save as source” (at least for Office documents) to generate the source document, then open this one, for example in Word, correct the formatting, save the document and use this as a starting point in Studio.
