Spanish term

aventura

Spanish to English Art/Literary Poetry & Literature
I'm not sure how to translate "aventura" in the following context from a poem I'm translating:

Madre de los dioses, Hesioto la llamaba.
Diosa que tambien es aventura.

The poem relates to a Norse myth about the goddess Nott (Night) who had three husbands. In the poem, she is described as "voluptuosa", "apasionada", "apetecida", and basically as a woman who is both desirable and also has a voracious sexual appetite.

I'm not familiar with the use of "aventura" to describe a person, and would be grateful for any suggestions.

Thanks,
Yvette

Discussion

Thank you all for your very helpful comments/interpretations. I think I will go with "seduction" for now and see what the author says.
Yvette Neisser Moreno (asker) Feb 8, 2006:
No rhyme or meter--this poet writes strictly in free verse. Here is the whole stanza:

Luz negra apasionada,
en un cielo donde lo prohibido nos se escribe.
Madre de los dioses, Hesioto la llamaba.
Diosa que tambien es aventura.
Gabriela Mejías Feb 8, 2006:
It would be great if we could read the whole stanza, because of the rhyme (if any). That would be helpful and lead us to a better choice of word.

seduction

Aventura is often used to describe a romantic affair, and in poetry this kind of metaphor is acceptable.

risky,tricky

Aventura related to a person will probably mean that person is dangerous, risky, too exciting. I am sure you'll be able to find a poetic term for it.

(the essence of) pleasure

This might work to the extent that adventure is perceived as pleasurable. It also goes well with other descriptions of her (i.e., being desirable, with a voracious sexual appetite). :-)

Suerte, Yvette!
