I have the word translated as "forrado" -- CMHC has published a glossary of house terms in Spanish and has siding (recubrimiento exterior) as "forrado" Is this an accepted term?

revestimiento/siding vinilico/de madera...
We don't use the term "forrado" in Chile. We usually just use "siding", which is understood to be vinyl siding (I've also heard that it is used in Peru). However, since there has been an influx in the market for wood and fiber cement siding, I would suggest being more specific. If you want to be more neutral, "revestimiento exterior" can replace siding.
Personally, when I've written specificiations I go with: "Revestimiento Exterior vinílico tipo siding"
