About a designer known as IBU.
I know that IBU designed gold jewellery for Chanel haute couture.
I think what "loin" is trying to say here is that even though the jewellery was featured in the Chanel shows, the author has seen it in other circumstances (perhaps on the designer herself).
Is this what you understand as well?

IBU, je l’ai rencontrée souvent avec son mari, Lionel Poilâne, elle était un personnage discret, vraiment discret, c’est-à-dire que l’on remarque de suite, même et surtout s’il parle peu. Je ne connaissais pas son vrai nom, Irena Bozzena Ustjanowsk, je ne savais pas qu’elle avait connu l’exil à 11 ans, partie de Pologne pour New York, elle n’en parlait pas. En revanche, je connaissais ses meubles et objets en bronze, ses “sculptures fonctionnelles”, j’ai vu ses bijoux loin des trois défilés Chanel haute couture de 1998, 1999 et 2000, et grâce à elle j’ai découvert les œuvres d’artistes sud-coréens soutenus par Lee Tae.
