Footnotes I can't use footnotes, as it's for subtitling! Thanks for all your answers! They helped me a lot!

I really think this cannot be done - puns are the most impossible things to translate, for linguistic and cultural reasons. The best you can do is to add a lomg translator's note explaining the pun in the source language and declining to translate it.
Amy Duncan (X) Dec 4, 2007:
You might have to put an explanation in a footnote.
Amy Duncan (X) Dec 4, 2007:
To find a pun for this in English I think would be very difficult, if not impossible, because the word "etiquette" here means "manners" and there is no word for "tag" or "label" that has anything to do with manners, as far as I know.
Amy Duncan (X) Dec 4, 2007:
Hi Rachel...this is really tough. The word "etiquette" used to mean "label," "tag," etc., but is now obsolete. I

Sorry Raquel, but could you clarify the question please? What is it that you want? What is the context?

etiquette - a ticket

Just a suggestion. I'm thinking of the ticket you get when you drop off your clothes at the dry cleaners - the one that always scratches you when you forget to take it off.

"This is a class on etiquette."

"Ah, a ticket on your clothes that you pull off because it's scratching your neck, right?"
Note from asker:
After some research I found that ticket can mean clothing label. So i used that! Thanks!

label/libel

A única coisa que consigo pensar seria:
'Ah!
"Oh, I ripped off the label because it could cause me a libel"

Sugestão de doido. Don't quote me, PLEASE!

Ah, entendi!
