German term

lebens- und kulturtechnische Bereiche

German to English Medical Medical: Health Care Nursing care
From a work reference for a nurse in a workshop for disabled people:

[Die] primaer geistig behinderte Mitarbeiter werden in lebens- und kulturtechnischen Bereichen gefoerdert.

I have not been able to find a comparable English phrase. My nearest guess is "life and cultural skills".

Thanks - and yes, Hilary, it's a reference. I think you're the first person to notice!
Hilary Davies Shelby Dec 9, 2007:
Just noticed your name Tanaudel - a Diana Wynne Jones reference or a coincidence?
Michelle Hertrich Dec 9, 2007:
I work as a physio in sheltered workshops for the disabled. "Life and cultural skills" is a good translation. This is basically the header for two categories that can include everything from social interaction to learning how to fill in forms.

life and social skills

usual collocation in which "social" would include interaction with others, navigating/understanding the world around.
