Angelika, I think Alexondra is not going to follow up on this Kudoz question; she placed again the question in a a little later. She did not react so far to any of our comments. I wish there was more respect.
Angelika Kuznetsova Jul 16, 2008:
Alexondra, any your question sticks us. Could you post exact and clean questions, please? We are always guessing what you mean. This phrase - where is the qustion?
James McVay Jul 13, 2008:
Is there a question here?
svetlana cosquéric Jul 12, 2008:
So am I!
Terry Moran Jul 12, 2008:
But Russian doesn't have a word like "konnossyor", does it? And if Iwere transliterating gastronom I wouldn't put an -e on the end. I'm still puzzled!
palilula (X) Jul 12, 2008:
I guess asker doesn't have Slavic keyboard and decided to put her question in English letters. I only wonder what is the connection between literature/ poetry and gourmet. May be there are poems on gourmet food and life.
Terry Moran Jul 12, 2008:
False distinction. A connoisseur is a discriminating expert on anything. A gastronome is a connoisseur of food and drink - gaster (Greek), stomach.
When did either of these words enter the Russian language, incidentally?

gourmet

The term gourmet may refer to a person with refined or discriminating taste or to one that is knowledgeable in the art of food and food preparation.[1] Gourmand carries additional connotations of one who simply enjoys food in great quantities. An epicure is similar to a gourmet, but the word may sometimes carry overtones of excessive refinement.

Example sentence:

Television programs (such as those on the Food Network) and publications such as Gourmet magazine often serve gourmets with food columns and features.

Gourmet tourism is a niche industry catering to people who travel to food or wine tastings, restaurants, or food production regions for leisure.

"гурман" и "знаток"

Примерно одно и то же, но connoisseur может применяться и не к еде.
