French term

renforts longaux

Non-PRO French to English Medical Medical: Cardiology stents/valves
This is taken from a discussion in which a patent for a biological valve (and who invented it first!) is being contested.

aussi, en considérant que la structure de renfort décrite est constituée d’un anneau circulaire, il n’est évident, même pour l’homme de l’art que l’ajout de ***renforts longaux*** sur une valve biologique obtenue selon la description de Num 02 permette de conserver de bonnes performances hémodynamiques ;

I am proofreading a doc in which the translator has translated 'renforts longaux' as 'lateral reinforcements'. Whilst I have never come across the French adjective 'longal/aux' in my life (brings to mind longitudinal/aux), I can't for a moment imagine that it could mean 'lateral' - to me it refers to length or the idea of 'lengthwise'. Either it is a typo and was meant to be 'longitudinaux' (odd sort of typo, however) or I have simply never come across an adjective that does in fact exist....! Or is it a form of scientific shorthand? Any light?
