Tumbler

Greetings,

Please, what do you call a tumbler (or ‘roly-poly’)?

A picture:

No matter how many times a child tries to push it over, it always stands up again!

Here it is called 'hacıyatmaz', literally 'the hadji doesn't lie down'.

Best wishes, and many thanks,

Simon
Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

PRO (1): Ahmad Kabiri

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Please also google the phrase.

BTW, I was wondering why this question has been selected as a non-PRO one!

Yes, you are right; but I'm almost sure that it can't be answered by a simple native speaker. I myself didn't have any idea what it is called in Persian until I searched a few terms and found the answer. I suppose you can also decide a question level by its difficulty.

You're very welcome!
Note from asker:
Many thanks, also for querying my non-PRO decision, as I myself had been having doubts. But isn't the idea that anything that can be solved by a native speaker with a dictionary counts as non-PRO? I'm sure that's what I read once.
Many thanks for the helpful clarification.
