Spanish term

chinas

Spanish to English Other Retail
Hi everyone,

I'm translating an application for a loan from El Salvador, from a person who owns a small store. The word "chinas" appears in the loan request as something he wants to purchase with the loan, and I'm not sure what it means - any ideas?

El préstamo que esta solicitando es para comprar más mercadería para la tienda como chinas y ropa deportiva; porque sus clientes le buscan esa mercadería y no la posee.

For confidentiality purposes I can't include any of the rest of the text, but it's incredibly short and doesn't provide ay further context.

Thanks!

Masculine 'chinos' is used in Spain for casual trousers. In the context of 'ropa deportiva' there might be a connection.

Si creo que es porcelana
Hola Paul Podría tratarse de lo siguiente:
china_
1.f. Porcelana, loza fina.
2. Tejido de seda o lienzo procedente de China.

Es decir: oriental silk / Chinese silk / China silk / Chinese textiles

En el caso de ser porcelana china: chinaware

Un saludo

convenience store with mixed assortment

In Central America (I believe, as in some other countries also) chinese immigrants open small convenience stores with a varied assortment from food and beverages to home supplies and small items like T-shirts, paper fans, flip-flops) that eventually together are called as "(tiendas) chinas".

Spanish term (edited): china

porcelain

chinas, changed for china for Glossary purposes.

My family used to own a store, and china was just porcelain, especially table ware.
Example sentence:

¡cuidado y se te quiebra, que es de china!

Ni platos de china tenían, solo plasticos.

clothes of Chinese origin

Por el contexto y debido a que es poco probable que se venda porcelana y ropa deportiva en una misma tienda, es mucho más probable que chinas se refiera a "marcas chinas", "prendas chinas", "ropas chinas" (que además incluyen la ropa deportiva de este origen).

Adicionalmente, china y el salvador tienen un altísimo nivel de comercio.
