The support of positive and negative values in the activation function speeds up the learning process of the neural
network. The training of the Back-propagation Neural Network (BPNN) was carried out using the efficient scaled conjugate gradient learning algorithm. This algorithm is far more efficient for training a BPNN than any of the conventional learning algorithms, e.g. gradient descent method.
