Portuguese term

Curso Científico Humanístico de Línguas e Humanidades

Portuguese to English Law/Patents Certificates, Diplomas, Licenses, CVs
This is in a secondary education certificate/diploma from Portugal. Perhaps something like "humanistic and scientific coursework in languages and humanities"?

Discussion

Juliet Attwater Feb 2, 2015:
Simply "Languages and Humanities" (I would suggest that anything else is otiose!)
Catarina Lopes Feb 1, 2015:
In the Portuguese educational system there are two main types of courses in secondary education: cursos científico-humanísticos and cursos profissionais. Cursos científico-humanísticos include any course, either in the field of sciences, economics, arts or humanities aimed at students who want to go to university. Cursos profissionais are vocational courses.

Crossing a range of important variables for the issues in discussion, namely, sex, type of course in terms of gender, social class and education level, we conducted group interviews with the following groups: (1) Girls in the undergraduate courses of Mechanical Engineering and Civil Engineering; (2) Boys in the undergraduate courses of Mechanical Engineering and Civil Engineering; (3) Girls in the undergraduate course of Psychology; (4) Boys in the undergraduate course of Psychology; (5) Girls in secondary school in scientific-humanistic course of Science and Technology; (6) Boys in secondary school in scientific-humanistic course of Science and Technology; (7) Girls in secondary school in scientific-humanistic course of Languages and Humanities; (8) Boys in high school in scientific-humanistic course of Languages and Humanities; (9) Girls in the vocational course of Informatics; (10) Boys in the vocational course of Informatics; (11) Girls in vocational courses of Municipal Management and Accounting; (12) Boys in professional courses of Municipal Management and Accounting. The collected information was analysed using Thematic Analysis (e.g. Braun & Clarke, 2006) and Foucauldian Discourse Analysis (e.g Arribas-Ayllon & Walkerdine, 2008; Parker, 1997, 1998; Willig, 1999, 2003, 2008).
