The understanding of a preposition
Hello everyone!
Could anyone give some explanation of 'above the Regency luxe'? Does it mean 'apart from' or 'except for' or just indicating direction ? Many thanks in advance.
Context
Four floors up she took me, above the Regency luxe, pale green fitted carpets all the way, to a tiny room with a sink and Baby Belling cooker crammed into a cupboard.

"Four floors up she took me, above the Regency luxe, pale green fitted carpets all the way, to a tiny room with a sink and Baby Belling cooker crammed into a cupboard."
So presumably the Regency luxe (apartment) was on the third floor and she took him on floor higher up to a position higher than, possibly directly over (above) the Regency luxe.

Or the Regency luxe could have been on any floor below the fourth.
Should read "she took him ONE floor higher up".

Contrast between squalid attic room and the luxurious Regency decor below
"Above" is simply location, but the whole phrase is about the contrast between what is presumably servants' quarters in the garrett and the luxury below.

I think it's a slight misreading to understand it as 'furnished with "Regency luxe"'. The idea is that the lower floors embodied luxury in their architecture and interior design (not just how they were "furnished"). This is contrasted with the squalor of the "tiny room with a sink and Baby Belling cooker crammed into a cupboard".

"Four floors up she took me, ... pale green fitted carpets all the way," makes it clear that the whole of the building below the garret is being described as "Regency luxe".
