Health & Safety guidance - pneumatic isolation (de-energising)
"...
9. Pneumatic Isolation
9.1 To be followed where a pneumatic supply has to be isolated to prevent the accidental or inadvertent start-up or movement of machinery or equipment.
9.2 Pneumatic isolation will be required when carrying out repair/maintenance work and in conjunction with specific local rules and certain permit-to-work activities.
9.3 Where the compressor is driven by an electric motor, the electrical isolation procedures shall apply.
9.4 Where the compressor is powered by an internal combustion engine the key shall be removed and retained by those working on the system or be secured in a lockable box provided for this purpose.
9.5 A notice shall be displayed on the control panel - “Do not start men working on the equipment”.
9.6 Air receivers shall be drained to ensure there is no energy retained within the system.
9.7 Some items of equipment may be held in their normal position by the pneumatic system. When the system is de-energised they may move and assume a new position e.g. ***swing chutes*** in batch heater drums. Certain items of plant may need restraining before the system is de-energised and deemed safe.

: Schwenkrutsche (evtl. gar Klapprutsche?).
