According to Farouqi's Law Dictionary and the Macquarie Dictionary, these are the rights one person holds to the use of someone's else land, whether explicit (as building on it, or renting it, or farming it) or implied (as in using it for passage to his/her own property). Usually easement also implies that the land of the rights' holder is adjecent to that which is being used.
