糕点胚 is just a cake before adding the finishing creams and decorations, anyway it's a piece of cake. To distinguish the "nearly-finished cake" from the "completely-finished cake", cannot but add the word "blank" to "cake".

sorry, I made a blunder it's the other way round: 裱花蛋糕 is a kind of 糕点胚. So it's a kind of a cake. Hope it helps
