DianeGM (asker) Nov 7, 2008:
Clarification Thanks Jack and thanks Lianne for the reference. Smoothing (smoothening ?) may fit but not final smoothing as it seems to refer to a kind preparatory work to possibly be carried out prior to construction/insertion of the test joint.

Lianne thanks - I didn't find that reference so that was helpful, but it does seem a little different in this case as the "aangestort/aangeheeld/gestraald" seem all to be types of preparation works which prepare (the ends?) existing structure to allow the new experimental structure to be built in. Unless of course the new joint is of different dimensions than the previous one ....
DianeGM (asker) Nov 7, 2008:
clarification Concrete, mostly.
Jack den Haan Nov 7, 2008:
What kind of material is being used? Gravel? Sand? Concrete?

Tip: google 'final smoothing' in combination with 'road', or 'road construction' in combination with 'smoothing'.
