I assume you meant ot post this question under the English>Arabic language pair.

I have omitted the word "Syria." When writing for an English-speaking audience, the expression "Damascus, Syria" makes a lot of sense, but in Arabic, it would be an overkill (an insult to the reader, who knows that Damascus is the capital of Syria). This is a judgment call, of course.

Also, the expression "markets and bazaars" gives the English version the desired air of exoticism. In Arabic, you would not need that. The Arabic word ASWAQ should be sufficient.
