The XXX-System is a simple end-to-end IT solution that integrates computing, storage, power and network resources into a modular, self-aware environment.

"Accelerometer readings are important to make the modular robot self-aware about its current state in the environment"

English term (edited):
self-aware (autonomic computing)
www.edite-de-paris.com.fr/Theses/sujets-theses-2005/ Science-et-Technologie-du-Logiciel.htm -
IBM calls this concept autonomic computing, which requires that the system "know its environment and the context surrounding its activity, and act accordingly. It will find and generate rules for how best to interact with neighboring systems. It will tap available resources, even negotiate the use by other systems of its underutilized elements, changing both itself and its environment in the process -- in a word, adapting."
You get the picture--a more adaptable, intelligent, self-aware environment with predictive and self-regulation capabilities. However, the self-awareness and autonomic capabilities (as in the nervous system that responds automatically and hopefully appropriately to stimuli) are still largely embryonic. There is increasing automation in supply chain management, systems management and more automated business functions such as single sign-on, dynamic provisioning to maintain service levels and break/fix resolution, but not the end-to-end, self-managing omniscient environment.
