"grade-level" semble désigner le niveau de connaissances requis pour des matières fondamentales.

Je rendrais donc par "obligatoire".

"grade-level" here means the class level, not obligatory material but level of learning the child needs to be at for age so, e.g if in CM1. all teachers need to be teaching that level. Below are French ages/grades if this is for France
