As far as I know "wadding" is "imbottitura" and I can find no reference to "watting" used in this sense.
"watting" would appear to be connected with "watt" or it would appear to be a typo.
I suggest Iris you get back to you client and check. The only watting I find on the web are more typos....

imbottimento, imbottire

"watting" in English is used to mean "packing" - the packing in a shotgun cartridge, a padded lining in a jacket.

I am not familiar with welding terminology, but this suggests to me that "watting action" is likely to mean the tendency to fill the gaps in a welded joint - slightly different from bead formation.

If this interpretation is correct, it seems to me that you could use "imbottimento" or a construction with "imbottire", which translates into English as "packing" or "stuffing". It is used to mean many things, including stuffing a student's head with facts!

The net reference given below gives "imbottito" as an equivalent for "watting" in describing a padded jacket.
