Years ago I received a video tape of a speech I had given in front of
eleven thousand people. I heard my children chuckling as they watched
the tape. I was mortified to see that I had given that entire speech with
several hairs on the back of my head sticking straight up in the air. Not
only did it show up on the small television we were watching, but ***at the
actual event*** my image had been projected larger than life on a thirtyfoot
screen. Those few hairs must have looked like palm trees swaying
in the breeze. No one walked out of the meeting because of those hairs,
but I am sure that they were a distraction. Well-kept hair, freshly ironed
clothes, clean fingernails, shined shoes, and fresh breath are all an important
part of a professional appearance.
