English term or phrase: pomogai blizhnemu
This appears on Russian sites as a common Bible quote. But King James version readers (self included) only seem to be familiar with "LOVE thy neighbor."

Thanks for a most informative answer-- I hadn't guessed the Apocrypha, but it sure makes sense. Also for introducing me to a great website.

neutral  koundelev: You refer to one of the Ten Commandments. But the idea is more practical - "help... for then thy neighbour will help thee"

serve your neighbour

Explanation:
I think this is what is meant, although the more accurate translation is "help your neighbour".
It is not a Bible quotation in Russian just the idea based on the Biblical "love your neighbour" and the genaral implication of doing to others as you would to be done to yourself and serving others as Christ did and taught.
I do not think the translation "love your neighbour" is enough, even though it is quite Biblical, as it is not the exact meaning of "pomogai blizhnemu"

agree  Maksym Nevzorov: nice explanation, but is there a quote "serve your neighbour" in Bible?
15 mins
-> Thank you, Maksym! This is not a Bible quotation in the same way as "help your neighbour" is not exacly the words from the Bible but this is the practical application of "love your neighbour"
