вряд ли это опечатка - в google я нашел довольно много "a the key element" как правило в "химическом контексте", так-что какой-то смысл в этом вероятно есть - я полагаю, что идея такая - в какой-то, например, химической структуре есть ОДИН ключевой элемент (the key element)- занимающий в формуле определенное КЛЮЧЕВОЕ место - но этим ключевым элементом могут быть РАЗНЫЕ вещества - например азот и натрий, в этом случае мы можем сказать, что для данной формулы "natrium is a the key element"

Alexander Demyanov: Из ряда "a the key element" мы выберем важнейший: "the a the key element" для данной формулы. Говоря о таком элементе не конкретной формулы, а "какой-нибудь" формулы, напишем "a the a the key...". И т.д., но ни за что не откроем книгу по грамматике.

Vladimir Vaguine: в Гугле 74700 ссылки на выражение "не смотря на". Если исходить из вашей логики, то вряд ли это все опечатки, и в этом есть какой-то смысл... Не стоит искать скрытый смысл в обыкновенной небрежности или невежестве.
