From a balanced fund report:
"We are underweight US equities for earnings and valuation reasons. Meanwhile we are trading the range in US Treasury yields, with a short duration bias and we also maintain a structural short duration position in Japanese government bonds anticipating a flat trend in core consumer prices there by first quarter 2005."

hi,
by trading the range, it means that in this specific area (US Treasury Yields) they are trading all periods available. i assume "treasury yields" would refer to the interest yielded by different issues from the US Treasury, being split up according to type of issue and period (in years or motnhs, generally).
although i was a money broking professional for 13 years, this was not my area of expertise - therefore i cannot fully guarantee the answer.

of course, this would apply to all us treasury yield instruments too - bonds, bills, cd\'s (does the us treasaury have cd issues?) etc

by saying \"with a short duration bias\", they mean they are favouring the short-term periods, 6mths, 1yr...over 10yr or 30yr bonds for example, but in saying bias, they still mean they are looking to trade them all in general
