Tony M Feb 21, 2012:
Please clarify I assume you probably mean simply a 'story' (unless there is soemthing specifically historical about this narraive?) — but what do you mean by 'training'? Is this material intended for training other people? Or is it in fact part of your own learning? As has been pointed out before, if your question arises out of schoolwork etc. (or a translation test), then you are supposed to declare that at the time of posting your question.
Phoenicia (asker) Feb 21, 2012:
ok I tried to write a history for training
B D Finch Feb 21, 2012:
What is this about? Are these questions taken from something you are writing for a test or homework? If so, according to KudoZ rules, you should state that when posting the question.

Not incorrect, but may not be saying what you think it is

'all this way' tends to imply that they are all already in the process of doing this walk together — and I suspect that is not actually what you wanted it to mean!

If it was meant to mean that they are too young to have walked the distance they have, then you'd need to use the perfect tense:

"They're too young to have walked all this way" — implying the speaker is stationary, and the young children have come towards them.

agree B D Finch : The whole sentence is very odd, especially the "diseases" bit. It does look as though it should all be in the past tense. Unfortunately, the Asker hasn't responded to your previous question re what this is all for.

Thanks, Barbara! Well, we now know this was Asker's attempt to write story, so these errors are understandable from a non-native speaker. As you say, the second part in particular sounds very odd indeed.
agree AllegroTrans : the asker has a perfectly valid phrase, we cannot "divine" the exact meaning without further help from her

Thanks, C! Quite! I feel sure that although the text is grammatically OK (though stylistically odd), it probably isn't actually conveying accurately what the writer thought she was saying.

Thank you :)
neutral B D Finch : I don't see how your suggested rephrasing improves upon the original. In fact, the rest of the sentence is more problematic than this first section.// As we now know, the Asker is asking us to edit her own story.

It doesn't say much to you. But sometimes the meaning becomes clearer to others when you use different words. And I presumed the question was about the first part of the sentence and the rest was there merely for context.

Peer comment(s):

neutral Tony M : Like I said, it is acceptable EN (though note that there is a subtle difference between "all this way" and "all the way" as in your examples); but as I pointed out, the correct meaning may not actually be what Asker thinks she is expressing.

Point taken; Tony M: the speaker warns that the children aren't dressed properly for such a long walk, etc: I believe the the source text works just fine here. eski :))
