Oh Promise Me is a song that was traditionally sung at church weddings. Lenox china was a traditional type of wedding gift.

Actually, I think the Lenox reference is to the practicality of getting back in fine dinnerware part of the investment in the expensive wedding.

I would guess the speaker is from the town of Lenox, in the state of Massachusetts...it would make sense in this context, because of the class factor. Massachusetts is considered a very refined, well-heeled state, whereas Baltimore tends to be portrayed as an edgy port town (no disrespect intended to any Baltimorean reading this...).
