Context:
Toyota engineers added a newly developed M-mode control, “Sports direct shift response”. The M-mode gives a more direct feeling and lock-up is used from second to 6th gears for as wide a range as possible right up to the red zone. This allows a sporty drive like on a manual transmission. The paddle shift option and “blipping” during the downshift process adds to driving fun and feel. Blipping is achieved by controlling the inject volume of diesel and hydraulically controlling the clutch engagement and disengagement. Through this the change time and response could be improved greatly. Here, Toyota has achieved a world best for downshift times in diesel engines.
