Le véhicule a été pris en charge dans notre atelier le 30/07/07 à 10h30.
Ci-dessous la liste des contrôles réalisés sur le vehicule:
- Interrogation témoins de défaut
- Bloc valeur de mesure
- Contrôle + charge de la batterie (véhicule arrivé avec batterie très faible)
- Contrôle courroie de distribution
- Contrôle pression pompe à carburant
- Contrôle capteur G28
- Contrôle alimentation + masse appareil de commande moteur
Apres ces contrôles le véhicule présentait un défaut de masse. En effet la masse se trouvant dans le boîtier d'eau n'était pas serrée. Remise en état masse dans le caisson d'eau.
Le véhicule disponible le 31/07/07 à partir de 15h00.

It is clear enough from the context that they are talking about the negative return feed connection to the vehicle chassis.
Even though this is not literally 'earth/ground', the term is still commonly used.

As Clanola has so rightly pointed out, in an automotive context, it would be more technically appropriate to refer to 'masse' as 'chassis' — but oddly enough, 'earthing'/grounding' seems to be widely used, at least in everyday techy-speak; perhaps it's because cars used to have a 'real' chassis, whereas these days, 'earthing'/'grounding' generally takes place to the body shell instead. We do, of course, quite often talk about 'chassis earth' (thankfully, that doesn't lead us to 'masse de masse' in FR!)
