Nacelle à déport négatif Mobile underbridge platform/basket [CEi,10/98, p.24; BTPM,10/99p.vii]
CEi being Civil Engineer International, a publication of the British Inst. of Civil Engineers,
BTPM being BTP Magazine.
Négatif refers to the fact that if you have an inspection platform on an articulated boom mounted on a truck, the platform can be placed beneath the truck (beneath the bridge). Yes , the French are unnecessarily Cartesian about such things. I suppose an "ordinary" one à déport positif would be suitable for inspecting the underside of one bridge from a truck travelling on a parallel bridge ... Unless négatif refers to the fact that it's for inspecting below the level of the base units, most nacelles being designed to elevate above the base only.
