French term

regalber

French to English Marketing Cosmetics, Beauty skin care
For a new skin firming product:

L'ovale de votre visage est comme regalbe.

At the moment, I have the idea of "redefining facial contours", which I was pretty happy with, but then later in the text they refer to a lip balm "qui redessine le contour des levres", which I would also be inclined to translate as "redefining lips".

My question: does redefining get across the idea of regalber? I've also thought of "Giving shape to the face", but not as keen on it.

Discussion

Non-ProZ.com Nov 24, 2004:
Ouch! I'll definitely drop it, then :-)
CMJ_Trans (X) Nov 24, 2004:
as someone "older" trust me, the "re" only serves as an unwanted reminder ! Poor psychology
Non-ProZ.com Nov 24, 2004:
Thanks Victoria, I've now found a lot of skin care sites that talk about "recontouring".
Non-ProZ.com Nov 24, 2004:
Thanks CMJ, these answers are very helpful. I agree you don't always need (and often shouldn't translate) the re, but here I imagined that the users of these creams once had lip definition, are losing it, and this product help them get it back - hence the 're'. But perhaps you are right that it could be dropped here.

or if you\'re deciding against the \'re\', how about to contour the lines of your face?

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Found oodles of references to recontouring, thanks to Victoria. I also liked the ideas of restoring and giving new definition, which I have used elsewhere in the text. Many thanks to all"

redefine/reshape facial contours = fine

the lip balm is for lip definition

IDEAS - you are on the right track but you don't always need to translate the "re" in English

balm for better lip definition

not firming as much as injecting silicone to reconstruct curves.

the idea for all these beuaty products is to make you look young again and to restore the juvenile beauty. So skin firming products may allegedly restore the countour of your face, the way you looked when you were young :(
