Discussion

Helen Shiner Dec 9, 2010:
@ BDFinch Architecture is about the function of buildings as much as their construction, so I wouldn't personally see that as the wrong category.
writeaway Dec 9, 2010:
wow what's your point?
AllegroTrans Dec 9, 2010:
Wow...... I hope you've got muzzle on that dog....
writeaway Dec 9, 2010:
Just as well there is no diplomacy category because it has nothing to do with diplomacy either :-)
B D Finch (asker) Dec 9, 2010:
@writeaway It's nice to be God: particularly when one is an atheist. Unfortunately we don't have a "diplomacy" category, so just have to make do.
writeaway Dec 9, 2010:
management isn't the right category either. but since Askers reign supreme ...
B D Finch (asker) Dec 9, 2010:
Diplomatic confidentiality applies It actually doesn't make any difference what country this is, though I am translating into UK English. It is certainly not "real estate". This is about the function of the space within the context of the work of an embassy. They are not buying, selling or altering the space in question.
writeaway Dec 9, 2010:
what country is this from.
Imo, it's should be under Real Estate, not management
B D Finch (asker) Dec 9, 2010:
Field This was changed to "architecture" by ProZ, however it is probably not architecture, but a functional area. The document is about an employee's duties, not about architecture at all. I have, therefore, changed the field to "management".

disagree Helen Shiner : Representational space doesn't work in EN, since it begs the question 'representational of what'? This is a perennial problem into EN from French and German.

agree joehlindsay : "Representation" of their countries is what embassies do. These are essentially for receptions, but since 'reception area' has another common meaning, they are called representational spaces.

French term (edited): aire de réprésentation

auditorium

Just taking a stab at it really -- I don't see why they would have a 'theatre' in an embassy, but it could be a kind of auditorium used for press conferences or other types of meeting.
Peer comment(s):

agree amanda solymosi : a conference room, definitely.

neutral Catharine Cellier-Smart : I have yet to see an auditorium in an embassy ... // I have ;-)

Fair enough; I haven't visited many embassies...
neutral joehlindsay : Actually a lot of larger embassies have auditoriums.

reception area

I think this is the formal reception area in this building complex. Could be more than one space. It is the bits that the public see so probably more imposing.

Public spaces could also work if that is not too vague.
