French term
remise v.réduction v. d'escompte
French to English
Bus/Financial
Retail
I think réduction and escompte are obvious (reduction and discount) but then how is remise different? It's not really a rebate and not really a refund. Is it a credit? I'm confused about how to make the distinction.

: Yes. The “reduction” and “escompte” refer to the discount (pour tous les types d'escomptes).

allowance, reduction, discount
I've also seen "remise" translated as "allowance" (in the sense of reducing the total cost of a purchase), which should give you some additional word variation. It reads like a catch-all, so this should work.

escompte
discount
1. Opération par laquelle un traite est payée ...
2. Somme que la banque retient ...
Syn. Rabais.
3. Action de dispenser de qqchose ...
So according to that it would indeed have to be something like "discount RATE" and "discount AMOUNT" since we don't appear to have separate individual words for these things.
