French term

réseaux de fibres en boucle métropolitaine

French to English Tech/Engineering Telecom(munications) fibre optic networks
This comes from the CV of a telecoms project manager:

Coordination du projet (400 M€) de réseaux de fibres en boucle métropolitaine et d’hébergement (Netcenters de Paris, Lyon, Strasbourg, Genève) vendu à 360 Networks (USA).

My head is swimming with all the different translations given for “boucle” in the dictionaries! The first thing that came to my mind was something like Local Loop Network, but I am far from an expert.

Can someone knowledgeable about the industry help me with the appropriate term for “réseaux de fibres en boucle métropolitaine”? Thank you!

Excellent! Thank you mediamatrix. I knew it would be something simple for an industry expert.

fibre-optic MAN

where MAN (by analogy with LAN and WAN) is "metropolitan area network"

'boucle' is superflouos ere, IMHO

clarification: 'boucle' is missing in the term 'fibre-optic MAN' because - at least in the context of the ST, it is sufficiently-well implied in the 'N' for network.

disagree rkillings : 'boucle' is not superfluous. It indicates a loop (rather than star) network topology.

And I maintain that that is a superfluous detail *in the context* of the source document. Also, from what I recall of the Geneva MAN, mentioned in the ST, it is not a loop anyway, tho' that's subject to verification.
