I do not agree with Yolanda. In my experience, ombudsmen are appointed under specific statutes, each with a speicifc area of responsibility again, clearly defined by statute.

Examples :
- Conveyancing Ombudsman : appointed under (Courts & Legal Serivces Act) CLSA 1990, s.43 to consider and report on any breach of the regulations concerning the conduct of authorised conveyancing practionners.
- Legal Services Ombudsman under CSLA also)... appointed to investigate the way in which a complaint has been handled by legal professional bodies.
- Insurance Ombudsman :

- Banking Ombudsman...

These are thus officially appointed positions and the term "ombudsman" is not applicable to internal corporate ethical and professional conduct departments.

I used to work for the Legal Department of a UK professional accountancy body. The department dealt with Complaints against members and dispensed ethical advice. Job titles in such circumstances are open of course, but common titles are : Ethics Officer, Professional Conduct Advisory Officer, or something of that ilk. Check statutory professioanl bodies, Law Society, Accoutancy bodies, Bar Council, British Medical Association (BMA)- all professional bodies have such departments.
