German term

Abwasserrückhaltesystem

German to English Tech/Engineering Engineering: Industrial Sewage/Wastewater Systems
"ABC betreibt am Standort XYZ als Teil der Infrastruktureinrichtungen zentrale Abwasseranlagen, bestehend aus der Hauptkanalisation für Mischabwasser (Fabrikations- und Sanitärabwasser sowie Niederschlagswässer), der Abwasserneutralisationsanlage und dem zentralen Abwasserrückhaltesystem."

From a text about a company's wastewater/sewage systems. I don't undserstand what exactly is meant by "Abwasserrückhaltesystem", can't find a translation for it in any dictionary and my best English translation guesses are yielding virtually no search engine hits. I must confess that I'm also somewhat stuck on "Mischabwasser" and "Fabrikations- und Sanitärabwasser". TIA for helping me clear this up.

wastewater retention system

See first ref below for explanation of wastewater ret. sys.
Mischabwasser is simply mixed wastewater (consisting of raw sewage, industrial wastewater, etc.). It says so as much in your text above what it's composed of. See 2nd ref for a treatment plant of mixed wastewater.

Fabrikations- und Sanitärabwasser are industrial wastewater / sanitary wastewater.

If you're going to translate texts on environmental engineering, I suggest the Cornelsen Girardet or the Goetzel/Goetzel. I use those a lot.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Thanks Marcus. This is perfect! Actually, I rather hope NOT to do this kind of stuff too often, but if I do start getting more of it, I'll certainly keep those dictionary references in mind, so thanks for mentioning those. Thanks also to the peer graders. Appreciate everyone's help."
