German term or phrase: nach außen gerichtetes Handeln
In a description of political foundations I have this phrase-not exactly difficult but I cannot think of a good rendering in English and wonder if anyone can suggest something which sounds authentic. Many thanks.

the way that Germany conducts itself on the world stage
Explanation:
You have probably used ‘international’ and ‘act(ivities)’ already in the sentence. This is not about trade (‘der Handel’ minus ‘n’) as suggested elsewhere on this page but about the verbal noun ‘das Handeln’.

it appears that the six named foundations do play a role that involves more than just influencing the way Germany projects itself. I would therefore propose this amended version:
… are also active on the international stage and therefore play a role in shaping the way that Germany represents itself to the outside world.

My choice is a sort of combination of this rendering and Stephan's but I think it is important that Germany presents itself rather than is represented (Andrew's neutral comment on Stephan's suggestion) but liked Stephan's "external relations"-ideally would have given 2 points each..Thanks to everybody for their help.
